Al Manara: What Makes This District Notable

Сохранить статью Save the article:

What is it about? Al Manara in Dubai boasts a convenient location (surrounded by four prestigious districts of the city), good infrastructure, and favourable living conditions.

Who is it suitable for? Al Manara attracts couples and people who want and are ready to rent spacious villas. You won't find regular flats and studios here, but there are good offers for renting and buying country houses with 5–6 rooms.

Main Features of the Al Manara District in Dubai

This residential area of Dubai is located in the western part of the city. From Arabic, “al manara” can be translated as “lighthouse”. The location of the district is advantageous, as Al Safa is to the east of it, Umm Suqeim — to the north, and Umm Al Sheif — to the west. Nearby is the E11 highway (Sheikh Zayed Road), which provides access to all popular shopping centres in Dubai.

Al Manara is developing at a very rapid pace. A large selection of villas is already available, which are suitable for rent or purchase, and can be used as residential or commercial premises. The journey from the centre of the district to Jumeirah Beach takes about 13 minutes. There are no apartment buildings here; this district was created for secluded family living among neighbours with similar desires.

Al Manara is a place for those who dream of large detached housing. Near Jumeirah, this has become quite popular because Sheikh Zayed Road runs nearby. Of course, there are also shops and buildings constructed for commercial rent.

Also, for those who prefer dining out, there are many cafés and eateries. All establishments are located in the front part of Al Manara closer to Sheikh Zayed Road. Residential complexes are located behind them.

Infrastructure of Al Manara

The district can be compared to a small city: all infrastructure necessary for life is concentrated nearby. Schools, supermarkets, medical facilities, and shopping centres are located in Al Manara.

Shops

Near the J3 Mall, there is a Choithrams supermarket. In Al Manara itself, closer to the centre, there is the popular Al Manara Star Grocery store, and in the Bab Al Manara Grocery store various goods for daily use can be found: food, hygiene products, household chemicals, and other supplies.

Within a five-minute walk, in Umm Suqeim, there is another Choithrams branch. The British grocery chain Waitrose & Partners is represented in Dubai. There you can purchase ingredients familiar for expatriates and food imported from England. The market is located near the Al Manara district.

Religious Buildings

Respect for all faiths is one of the unspoken rules of the district and all of Dubai. Buildings for followers of all religions are present in and around it. The Debi Hammerle church is built in Al Manara. If desired, several Christian temples and a Mormon church can be reached by car in 10 minutes.

For Hindus, there are also several holy places: the Mahamevnawa Buddhist temple, Shirdi Sai Baba and Guru Nanak Dabar temples. They can be reached by car in an average of 15–20 minutes.

And of course, there are beautiful mosques in Al Manara. The main one is the Central Mosque. As can be surmised from the name, it is indeed located in the centre. The two other mosques — Al Manara and Masjid Kassim — stand next to each other. Near Sheikh Zayed Road, you can also see the Masjid Musabah Bin Rashid Al Fattan mosque.

Educational Institutions

As a private, family-friendly district it cannot do without various institutions, and childcare groups. There are many kindergartens in Al Manara, with Montessori pedagogy and other early development systems being popular.

Several schools using various international education programmes are located near this district. For example, Emirates International School, which has been enrolling students since 2005, combines UK baccalaureate methods with international standards (IB).

At Collegiate American School, children receive education under the American education system, from preschool education to high school graduation. If you are looking for additional options, you can consider International Horizon School, which is located nearby.

Higher education institutions are located in Knowledge Park near Dubai Media City. The journey there takes just over 10 minutes. Dubai branches of famous world universities are open here. Among them: Middlesex University, The University of Manchester, Michigan State University, and others.

Hospitals and Specialized Clinics

In the district, there is a HealthBay clinic on Al Wasl street. It is located between Al Manara and Umm Suqeim. Opposite the district is the Burjeel Hospital for Advanced Surgery. It is famous for its doctors in joint replacement and orthopedics, as well as technologies that maximally preserve the patient's own ligaments, cartilage, and tendons.

Nearby, in Al Safa 2, there is the private Medcare clinic, specializing in urology, gynecology, pregnant women's and children's health, including the postpartum period.

Dubai London Clinic And Specialty Hospital is located on Jumeirah Street in the Umm Suqeim district. Nearby are specialized clinics. Here you can seek help from osteopaths, cosmetologists, and plastic surgeons, as well as for spine treatment.

Cosmetic medical centres have also become tourist attractions — Dubai Cosmetic Surgery, Bloom Aesthetic And Laser, and Dr. Kayle Aesthetic. Pharmacies can also be found here.

Medications and medical products can be purchased at the Pharmacy chain, Medicina Pharmacy, or Super Care.

Restaurants

Italian and American cuisine establishments are very popular in Dubai. There is no shortage of restaurants in the district, so gourmets will definitely find something to their taste.

Many recently opened restaurants in Al Manara have already gained fame in the emirate. Almost all of them are located on Sheikh Zayed Road near residential buildings. At Denny's you can have classic American dishes, Raju Omlet is a good choice for an early and hearty breakfast, and at Bertin Bistro you can try haute cuisine. You can taste local food at Crumbs Elysee and Reem Al Bawadi.

Olive Garden has opened a branch in the Emirates, and the food there is based on Italian and American recipes. If your goal is to explore the taste palette of Al Manara, you won't suffer from a lack of places to realize it.

Two establishments near the district are promoted as restaurants for those who watch their diet: Jones The Grocer and Bystro. These establishments are located so that they are easy to reach on foot.

Renting and Buying Property in Al Manara

The entire Al Manara district is divided into several parts. The 34 Lake Villa Compound complex combines 8 separate villas. Each has 4 bedrooms, a working area, separate rooms for laundry and inventory, a storage room, and staff quarters.

The total villa area is usually about 425 square metres. A bonus for the residents is access to swimming lanes and sports gyms located in the complex.

The 34 Lake Villa Compound is built at the intersection of Al Manara and Umm Al Sheif. Here you can rent a villa with two apartments, each unit has housing built for a nanny or a housekeeper, and the villas are equipped with their own green gardens. The residents have access to places for recreation and celebrations, a room with a billiard table, and a sauna for shared use.

Such housing with four bedrooms is usually rented for a year. Prices can start from 140 thousand dirhams. The most respectable villas can cost up to 210 thousand dirhams per year. For a large family, housing with five bedrooms is offered from 175,000 dirhams, and somewhere the cost can reach up to 400,000 per year. Such mansions have their own swimming areas and separate underground parking.

If you are looking for a spacious house to buy, Al Manara also has villas with five or six bedrooms. Options with five bedrooms are presented in the range from 7.5 to 12 million dirhams. With more bedrooms the cost may range from 12 to 38 million dirhams.

If you are considering buying property as an investment, an Al Manara Dubai villa (5 bedrooms) will provide a return of about 3.4%. A villa with six bedrooms will have a slightly lower return. It is calculated at about 2.6% per annum.

Food Market in Al Manara

Al Manara houses a market of the same name, which is considered one of the largest in Dubai. Here you can advantageously buy local products, seasonal fruits and vegetables. You can also get good discounts on famous Eastern sweets here.

A real Eastern bazaar, it consists of open stalls with goods on tables. A large canopy fixed on supports protects vendors and buyers from the scorching sun. The bazaar has no walls. This is a wholesale market where everything is sold in boxes and large crates. However, unlike Bur Dubai and Deira, the food market is not a cultural attraction. People come here for bargain shopping.

Local residents often shop at the Al Manara bazaar for their large families. They immediately take wholesale batches of cereals, flour, oil, vegetables — common products for daily home meals. But tourists can also be met here. The tables offer a large selection of exotic goods that can be purchased as souvenirs.

Eastern desserts are no longer unusual, as they are sold in other countries too, but in their homeland, Arab sweets are always fresh. And, of course, the selection differs greatly. Baklava with nuts, sherbets, nougat, halva, and other Eastern sweets are sold here by weight. Naturally, a large purchase will be more advantageous in terms of cost. If you are buying something as a gift, the merchants can offer to pack your purchase in a gift box.

In the Emirates, you can enjoy fresh fruits all year round, and that's because almost all of them are imported from other countries. Only the seasonality of products will affect the price and taste. If you like exotic fruits, try sapodilla, longan, tamarind, pitaya, mango, rambutan.

There's also no problem with vegetables. Dubai has everything — from tomatoes to Middle Eastern exotic fruits.

If you want to bring fruits or vegetables home by plane, it's better not to buy them in advance. Buy slightly unripe fruits one day before the departure — this way they will be ripe upon arrival and won't spoil during the journey.

Spices are also often brought as a gift from Eastern countries. Dubai markets offer a wide variety: classics, like black peppercorns or expensive saffron, as well as local unusual spices — dried black lemon and orchid root. The Al Manara bazaar also offers spices from both Indian and Asian cuisine, not just Arabic ones.

Dried fruits and nuts are the main part of Eastern tea culture. The symbol of the country is, of course, dates. They make jams and preserves from them, cover them with chocolate and stuff them with nuts. This sweet is the most convenient to bring home as a gift for relatives. In shops and tourist places, you can often find sets of dates with nuts and other dried fruits. Local residents like to snack on them.

Arabic coffee can also be bought as a present. For Europeans, it is quite unusual, but as a gift from distant countries and for broadening horizons, it will do quite well. Arabs also excellently produce aromatic, rich-tasting tobacco for hookahs. But if you are looking for non-banal souvenirs, consider buying camel milk or acacia honey.

These goods at the market will cost you at least half as much as in stores. But you need to observe the culture of bargaining. Don't try to ask for a lower price immediately. Discuss the assortment, learn about new items, and then you can ask for a discount. Here you will almost never know the exact cost, because Al Manara is aimed at wholesale buyers. But don’t worry, you can buy anything retail as well.

In season, towards the end of the trading day, a box of mangoes can be purchased at the price of a kilogram of these fruits in the store. Tourists sometimes make wholesale purchases at the beginning of their holiday to avoid worrying about the cost of products in shops near home.

A large batch is always profitable. However, the plane allows a fixed amount of goods. Everything else will be confiscated. Fruits can be carried in a basket in hand luggage so they don't get crushed in checked baggage.

Successful bargaining at the market always begins with a light pleasant conversation. If you look for flaws in the goods and ask for a discount based on that, you will likely be refused. Look at the neighbouring trading stalls, compare prices, and chat with sellers. If you are friendly, smiling, and don't beg for a discount, they will likely offer it to you themselves.
